What is known
Cpanel::JSON::XS versions from 4.43 before 4.80 for Perl misorder byte-string keys during canonical encoding in utf16_cmp. canonical sorts keys by UTF-16 code units. When any key in a hash is UTF-8 flagged, every key is decoded as UTF-8 for the comparison, including byte-string keys that the encoder writes out as Latin-1 characters. A byte-string key whose bytes are valid UTF-8 is sorted out of order, and two keys that encode differently can compare equal and are left in hash order. The same data can encode to different canonical documents across processes.
Business impact
Successful exploitation of CVE-2026-110687, a reported vulnerability affecting the affected product, may affect the confidentiality, integrity or availability of the vulnerable environment. The exact impact depends on the installed version, exposed interfaces and deployment configuration.
Recommended administrator action
Confirm whether the affected product is present and compare installed versions with the vendor advisory and NVD record. Apply the vendor patch or documented mitigation; until remediation is complete, reduce exposure of affected interfaces, review relevant logs and monitor for indicators of exploitation. DataHouse can support version verification, managed patching, network exposure reduction, log review and backup validation for dedicated, cloud and colocated environments.
